The Phillippi Cottage (Residential Hospice)
Once diagnosed with a life-limiting illness, there are often limited options for where we spend our remaining days. Most of us would prefer to spend that time in our own home, but that is not always possible. The Phillippi Cottage offers an alternative to nursing homes and commercial residential care facilities.
Designed specifically for delivering compassionate care in a warm, inviting setting, The Cottage is a real home. With a fireplace, fully furnished kitchen, laundry room, and specially equipped bathroom, the residents enjoy the freedom to pursue their normal routine. An expansive yard is wheelchair accessible and makes a perfect retreat for quiet afternoons. With a 24-hour on-site caregiver, families can trust that their loved one is comfortable and safe. |
WHY WOULD SOMEONE CHOOSE TO LIVE AT PHILLIPPI COTTAGE INSTEAD OF A NURSING HOME OR A RESIDENTIAL CARE FACILITY?
Although there are many fine hospitals and nursing facilities in the Treasure Valley, their systems of care are necessarily standardized to provide care for large numbers of patients/residents. While all three types of facilities are designed to accommodate a variety of medical interventions, The Phillippi Cottage specializes in services that are designed specifically for those with a life-limiting illness. The Cottage provides a warm, home-like setting where the plan of care is individualized and dictated solely by the needs and desires of the patient. Staff is trained to manage the particular needs of these individuals.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BEING ON A HOSPICE PROGRAM AND LIVING IN A HOSPICE HOUSE?
A hospice program can be administered in one’s own home, a nursing home or other approved facilities, and the program that is administered is the same in all cases. A hospice house is an alternate living place for individuals who do not have caregivers at home or who prefer not to reside in a nursing facility. Residential hospices such as The Phillippi Cottage offer a comfortable living place for an individual that includes accommodation, meals, utilities, phone, cable television,
and 24-hour care.
WHAT DOES RESIDENCY AT THE PHILLIPPI COTTAGE COST?
Medicare and Medicaid cover the program costs of hospice at all approved locations; however, the hospice benefit does not include items such as room and board. Just like a home, there are expenses associated with running the Cottage. A cost of $175 per day covers accommodation, meals, cleaning, linens, laundry, a 24-hour caregiver, and all the amenities generally found in a home. It does not cover personal items such as clothing and toiletries since most residents choose to bring their own.

Some individuals will not be appropriate candidates for this program. We reserve the right to deny or discontinue services in qualifying circumstances.
