Our Hospice Story
Nestled between the grand Sawtooth and Cascade mountain ranges, the quiet Boise River gently winds its way through Idaho's Treasure Valley. It is within this tranquil setting that Dr. Mary L. Langenfeld, CEO, chose to start Life's Doors Hospice. Her inspiration to serve the terminally ill came from a source close to her heart.
“In 1969 I lost my 17-year-old sister, Judy, to leukemia,” states Langenfeld. “At that time, hospice did not exist in the United States. Now I know things could have been so much easier for my parents and for Judy. We were simply overwhelmed and didn't know where to turn for help with our ordeal. My parents have since passed away, but because of our experience, I think my parents would be very pleased with the assistance that we are able to provide other families.”
Following that experience, Langenfeld felt a ‘calling' to hospice. Considered one of the most difficult of medical services, hospice requires a rare blend of professionalism, technical skills and compassion. Dr. Langenfeld has dedicated herself to building a hospice team that makes a difference to terminally ill patients and their families.
The main office of Life's Doors Hospice is located in Boise, with services extending to Emmett and Mountain Home. These offices support families from Elmore County in the east to Gem County in the west, from Owyhee County north to Valley County.
In addition to hospice, a full range of other in-home services is available through Life's Doors Home Care Solutions. Everything from light housekeeping to meal planning, companionship and personal care can be provided. These services are helpful for the elderly, infirm or post-operative patients who need some assistance in their home.
